Reporting to the Chief Geologist, the incumbent will provide accurate and timely ore delineation processes and produce ore dig block estimations and reporting to facilitate short to medium term planning. The incumbent is accountable for complying with QAQC standards for geological data collection, integrity and interpretation. The incumbent would be responsible for tracking ore production and stockpile from mine to mill to an accurate and high standard.
The incumbent will provide training and development to Graduate Geologists as required and provide input to build and improve grade control systems and procedures
This is a FIFO position, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an additional week will be in quarantine, and therefore it will be a 28/14 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands.
Key Roles and responsibilities include
Optimise Ore Grade and Delivery
- Monitor and minimise dilution impacts on ore block digging.
- Complete audit and check sheet sign-off for ore block mark-up digging.
- Ensure ore delivery to correct destination.
- Ensure compliance to blend plan and report any deviations to plan.
- Ensure ROM stockpile control and feed to mill as per blend plan.
Mapping
- Complete post-blast mapping on benches and wall batters to designated KPI requirements, maintaining both quality and quantity standards.
- Plot mapping on bench plans timeously to aid in interpretation and discussion
RC Grade Control Drilling
- Generate RC grade control drilling designs and issue to mine planning in line with mine planning schedule.
- Track drill pattern progress daily and input data into daily tracking sheets.
Data Entry & QA/QC
- Assist in Geological data, RC drilling and sample and assay QA/QC duties.
- Validate and import RC collar, sample data and assay files as required.
- Troubleshoot and report QAQC issues to Senior Geologist.
Grade Control Ore Block Design
- Demonstrate a good geological understanding of the orebody to ensure sound interpretation of continuity and impact of material type and structure.
- Use all data - RC, DD and mapping to produce accurate interpretations.
- Complete all ore block design steps as per Guideline.
Weekly Planning
- Provide input to weekly planning process as directed by Senior Geologist.
- Ensure ore block mining status is up to date daily and recorded in grade tracking sheet.
- Work with Production Engineer to complete the two weekly blend plan. Ensure correct block sequencing and grades are in blend plan.
- Ensure RC drilling progress is up to date daily
Actively contribute to the site Safety and Environmental policies and initiatives as directed by the Senior Geologist & Chief Geologist
About You:
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara' Values
- Bachelor's degree in Geology
- At least two (2) years relevant work experience in an Open Pit Geology role
- Working knowledge of mining software, preferably Datamine, Vulcan or MineSight
- Ability to communicate across functional areas
