Job Overview

NPL is seeking a qualified and experienced Superintendent – Metallurgy to lead metallurgical accounting and drive plant optimisation strategies to maximise gold recovery while ensuring operational excellence and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Metallurgy team to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective plant operations.
• Oversee crushing, grinding, flotation, autoclaves, oxygen plants, lime kilns, tailings detoxification, CIP, and gold room operations.
• Manage and improve metallurgical accounting and reporting systems.
• Train, coach, and develop team members.
• Provide hands-on technical support and guidance.
• Coordinate with operations, laboratory, maintenance, mining, and finance teams.
• Drive project management and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor plant performance and implement efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with safety and statutory requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in mineral processing operations.
• Experience in senior metallurgist or superintendent roles.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Experience in metallurgical accounting systems.
• Project management and change management experience.
• Budgeting and cost control experience.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• First aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferred).

Employment Conditions

• Open to PNG Citizens only.
• FIFO roster: 21 days on / 14 days off.
• Site-based role at Porgera Mine.
• Pre-employment medical required (including drug and alcohol screening).
• Police Clearance (within last 6 months required).
• Immediate start preferred.
