The Role: Diesel Fitter

Based in Kiunga and reporting to the Supervisor Mechanical Maintenance, the Diesel Fitter will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance and operation of all diesel generators and associated mechanical auxiliaries at Kiunga Power Station.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel generators, including CAT 793 engines.

  • Diagnose and repair engine faults, perform overhauls, and respond to unplanned breakdowns.

  • Ensure safe operation of diesel generators and associated systems (cooling, fuel, pumps, lubrication).

  • Provide technical support to Power Systems Management and liaise with OEMs for specialized support.

  • Manage spare parts requirements and verify maintenance task completion.

  • Maintain compliance with site safety standards and environmental regulations.

  • Promote health and safety programs targeting zero work-related injuries.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide input into reporting systems.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance and support daily operations of the diesel plant.

Minimum Requirements

  • Trade Certificate in Diesel Fitting / Mechanical Fitting or equivalent qualification.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy-duty diesel generator maintenance (preferably CAT 793 engines).

  • Experience in power station, mining, or industrial power generation environments.

  • Knowledge of pumps, compressors, cooling, and lubrication systems.

  • Strong understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance systems (SAP or similar).

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
