PNG's Ok Tedi Mine Enrolls 16 University Graduates in Career Development Programme

 In a noteworthy development, Ok Tedi mine has announced the inclusion of sixteen fresh graduates from three prominent universities into its workforce through the Graduate Development Scheme (GDS) programme. The initiative, aimed at harnessing young talent, saw ten students from the University of Technology, four from the University of Papua New Guinea, and two from Divine Word University being selected following stringent entry requirements.


The diverse array of disciplines embraced by the new recruits includes accounting, human resource management, environmental science, chemistry, geology, mining engineering, mineral processing, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, information and communications technology, as well as applied physics and instrumentation.

Jesse Pile, the General Manager of Social Performance and Sustainability, addressed the newcomers, encouraging them to seize the opportunity presented by the programme. Pile emphasized the caliber of expertise within the organization, urging the graduates to embrace learning from their highly specialized colleagues.

Moreover, Pile highlighted the career pathways available within the company, citing the success story of Kedi Ilimbit, the current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, who emerged from the GDS programme. Reflecting on the programme's legacy, Pile expressed optimism about its continued impact on grooming talent within the mining industry.

Since its inception in 1988, Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has trained a total of 590 graduates under its GDS programme, signaling its enduring commitment to nurturing talent and promoting sustainable growth in the sector.
