In a commitment to fostering a robust industry-institution relationship, Papua New Guinea's OK Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) is ensuring that the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) produces graduates ready for the demands of the industry, according to the company's Managing Director and CEO, Kedi Ilmibit.

Speaking last Thursday during the opening week of PNGUoT’s orientation and registration week, marking the commencement of the 2024 academic year, Ilmibit emphasized the vital role that Unitech plays in contributing to the success of OTML. He acknowledged that the people of Papua New Guinea are the company's greatest resource, and many of them have started their professional journey at Unitech.

Ilmibit highlighted the special bond between OTML and Unitech, noting that professionals in various fields, such as mining, processing, engineering, communication for development, accounting, computer sciences, and more, have graduated from Unitech. He expressed pride in the legacy of training individuals and reiterated the importance of investing in people as one of OTML's primary objectives.

During the announcement, Ilmibit unveiled several ongoing projects as a testament to OTML's commitment to its relationship with the university. These projects include the donation of five light vehicles, the construction of the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory facility under the Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme, a funding commitment of K100,000 for the development of a Technology Transfer Centre, support for final year students through Industrial Training placements, efforts to drive changes in the industrial training program within the mining industry, and potential collaborations on knowledge and skills sharing.

Ilmibit underscored the success of Unitech graduates who have undergone training with OTML, citing their significant contributions to resource projects both in Papua New Guinea and internationally. He praised the quality of learning and experience received by Unitech graduates, expressing confidence that the current students would continue on the same trajectory.

Ilmibit reassured Unitech students of OTML's readiness to welcome them and emphasized the company's dedication to shaping the next generation of industry professionals through collaborative initiatives and ongoing support for educational and skill development programs.
