Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

Position Objective
An opportunity has become available for a highly experienced Operations Manager who is responsible for designing and managing strategies and systems to optimise mining operations for Porgera Operations’ life of mine.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing leadership, guidance and coordination to Department Managers so that goals are achieved at optimum efficiently at a minimum cost consistent with safe operating procedures, applicable laws and policies and sound business practices.
- Developing production strategy and objectives by analysing the Company aims, intentions and policies, so that the Company objectives are effectively and efficiently achieved on time and within budget.
- Maintaining the current production and budgetary situation by implementing and analysing daily and periodic reporting and data collection procedures to enable timely and alternate remedial action to be directed.
- Ensure all National, International and Company rules, regulations and procedures relating to Safe Working Environment practices, Occupational Health and Safety and sound business behaviour are observed and complied with by ensuring the preparation and authorising implementation, of operational rules, regulations and procedures to supplement and reinforce the statutory and Company requirements and policies.
- Assisting the General Manager in developing the overall business strategy, particularly in regard to operations.
- Continually strive for and pursue new methods and practices for improving the efficiency of the mine and supporting operations by monitoring, researching and where appropriate, introducing procedural and equipment developments.
- Enhance the quality of working life and job satisfaction and encourage consistently high performance from all employees.
- Control the interactions between the Processing Plant, Asset Management & Infrastructure and the Mining Departments in terms of systems and processes to ensure continued development and improvement.
- Managing the continual review of mining targets and delivery of results to agreed quality, quantity, timing and cost.
To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in metalliferous mining operations, open pit and underground production,
- Significant experience in leadership roles for a large gold mining operation.
- Knowledge of haulage dispatch systems.
- Experience in drill and blast functions.
- Significant experience in open pit mining technology and heavy production equipment.
- Recognised tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
- Ability to obtain PNG Metalliferous Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency
- Proven experience in training and developing a national workforce
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferable).
- Current Drivers Licence.
This position is open to Papua New Guinea Nationals and Expatriates.
Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. For PNG Nationals the roster is a fly in, fly out rotation on 21 days on, 14 days off. For anyone who resides outside of Papua New Guinea the roster is a fly in, fly out rotation with the roster 21 days on, 14 days off.
