Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit a Communications Officer to join our highly dynamic workforce for our Simberi Operations on Simberi Island in New Ireland Province.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager Communication & External Affairs, the Communication Officer is responsible for supporting our internal and external communications strategy, through the writing and dissemination of material that enhances company reputation and promotes branding.

This is an exciting time to join Simberi & St Barbara as we embark on our “Building Brilliance” journey to transform the business and deliver sustainable value.

This is a FIFO position; the roster is 21/14. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or the Tabar Group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Write and edit communications materials for external stakeholders including media releases, newsletters, fact sheets, and social media content.
  • Write and edit communication materials for internal stakeholders including employee announcements, corporate media material, staff newsletters and management messages
  • Plan and organise employee engagement events and campaigns
  • Monitor, evaluate and create reports detailing successes and failures of communications events and campaigns
  • Ensure that all communications material alignwith brand standards
  • Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos
  • Respond to media enquiries and perform media outreach to achieve brand placement in publications
  • Assist in managing communication in a crisis

Qualifications, skills, and experience required:

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Have understanding in the safety and continuous improvement culture of the mining industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in a communications or public relations role
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Have good time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in design and publishing software including Adobe Suite
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms
