K92 Mine sponsors PNG University student

THE K92 Mining Ltd has sponsored a fourth-year earth science student from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).

24-year-old Ephraem Nick said he was happy that his full tuition was covered this year.

K92 chief executive officer and director John Lewins said the mine remained committed to supporting students from UPNG and the University of Technology in mining-related fields – mining engineering, mineral engineering and geology.

“We pay all the fees, each recipient gets a monthly allowance; K1,000 text book allowance for the year and flights to and from home every semester and an opportunity to go into our graduate development programme, which is two years employment after university at the mine, full sponsorship would be about K20,000,” he said.

“We work with the universities, UPNG here and University of Technology to get a shortlist and it is about academic excellence, doesn’t necessarily have to be the top academic student but we are looking for academic excellence and their performance overall.”

Nick from Eastern Highlands, is the first of six siblings, two boys and four girls.

He attended Goroka Secondary School from 2015 to 2018 before proceeding to UPNG in 2019.
