SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER

      Reference: 20004011

Based in Tabubil and reporting to Superintendent Industrial Site Management, you will be responsible for providing technical support across the OTML operation to ensure OTML’s legal obligation under the Ok Tedi Environmental Management Act are met.


Your role will involve:

  • Ongoing development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System by maintaining consistency with ISO 14001 across all areas of OTML operation;
  • Actively participating in environmental activities such as incident investigations, improvement projects and studies, and promoting environmental awareness through management meetings, awareness trainings and site visits and inspections;
  • Ensuring appropriate levels of inspections and auditing are carried out to monitor the performance of the EMS. This includes ensuring required actions are carried out to maintain compliance;
  • Researching and conducting relevant studies on contaminated sites and propose remediation strategies for the operation;
  • Ensuring monitoring programs are in place and maintained to monitor aspects of high potential environmental impact and to ensure action plans address identified issues;
  • Reviewing, developing, implementing and monitoring the waste management program to ‘good international practise’ standards; and
  • Identification of environmental aspects and carrying out risk assessments to prioritise actions.

 

To be considered, you must possess the following:


  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or related discipline;
  • At least 5-8 years similar experience with leadership exposure;
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining an EMS consistent with ISO14001;
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with efficient project management exposure;
  • Solid understanding of different cultures, communities, and environmental issues; and
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, analytical and report writing skills.
