BHP, Emesent, Gekko Systems and Maptek founder Bob Johnson claimed the four major industry awards at the recent Austmine Conference held in Perth last week.
This year’s finalists and winners were celebrated at the Austmine industry leaders’ dinner and awards as part of the Austmine 2021 Conference and Exhibition.
Gekko Systems claimed the Craig Senger Excellence in Export award, sponsored by Austrade, ahead of finalists Applied Mining Technologies, Metallurgical Systems and Safescape.
BHP’s Dash Maintainer Tools won the Austmine Innovation for Miners award, sponsored by Komatsu, with Anglo American Digitisation of Work Orders and BHP’s TROC Human Machine Interface as finalists.
Dash Maintainer Tools is a hardware and software platform which enables maintenance technicians to undertake diagnostic testing tasks on mobile mining equipment without being within the footprint of the machine, removing them from the line of fire.
Emesent secured the Austmine Innovation for METS award over finalists 3ME Technology, Chrysos Corporation and PETRA Data Science.
Maptek’s Johnson received the Austmine Champion of Innovation award, beating Haydn Roberts from MST Global, John Lyons from Mineral Technologies and UON’s Mark Keogh.
In a video message, Johnson recalled the shared energy of early Austmine board meetings in the Hunter Valley Coalfields in the late 1980s.
“Under the Chairmanship of Eric Garner, we shared a vision of our collective strength … and the power of this team approach to the delivery of mining services has clearly been established by the sheer size of the Austmine membership today,” Johnson said.
“Today Austmine members are the right hand of the mining industry, pioneering change and ever improving the efficiency and safety in mines around the world.
“We did not envisage some of these great outcomes. That is exactly what happens when you make that extra effort.”
Johnson underlined the importance of Austmine continuing its work in supporting new start-ups and fostering even more innovation in mining.
“COVID has accelerated change in the way we work and the rate of change over the next 10 years will be far greater than what we have seen in the past 30 years,” Johnson said.
“We can all look forward to Austmine playing a pivotal role in building the Australian METS business to benefit our customers and stakeholders.
“Maptek will continue to champion innovation, and welcomes this recognition of our staff and customers.”
Maptek chairman Peter Johnson accepted the award on behalf of Bob Johnson at the dinner.
