Lihir Gold Mine asks PNG Govt to fast Track MOA

The management of Lihir Gold Limited has asked the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister if the National Executive Council can fast track the endorsement of the Lihir MOA.

Lihir’s Chief Operating Officer Craig Jones, says the Lihir MOA, which for the first time, Lihir Gold Limited, was invited to be part of, was completed in August 2017.

Mr Jones says it is now before NEC and he urged the Prime Minister that the company would like for his cabinet to endorse the MOA soon so that they can get on and sign it.

Meantime, Mr Jones told the Prime Minister, they are on the verge of completing and signing off on their Compensation, Relocation and Development Agreements with the landowners.

He says the Lihir MOA, Compensation, Relocation and Development Agreements once approved will propel their development aspirations in Lihir, Namatanai and the wider New Ireland to even greater heights.

The Chief Operating Officer told the Prime Minister, the future of Lihir Mine looks bright with the development of a plan for the mine’s future that takes into account a vibrant workforce and good collaborative partnership with stakeholders including landowners and the government.

The Prime Minister pledged his support to ensure the Lihir MOA is addressed by the NEC at its soonest.
