Newcomer Team PNG LNG is the first place winner of the Ropes Challenge and the third place winner of the theory contest in the 2019 National Mining Emergency Response.
The seven man team was comprised of staff based at the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant (HGCP) and the Port Moresby based LNG Plant.
Held at the Sir John Guise stadium, the three-day event comprised of a theory exam on day one, followed by two days of intense competition in six specific events.
Organised by the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, 11 teams competed from PNG’s Extractive industry for the top spot. The teams were put through real-life simulation scenarios of road accident rescue, confined space rescue, multi-casualty, firefighting, rope rescue and endurance.
Safety, Health and Environment Manager of ExxonMobil PNG, Winnie Schubert in congratulating the team said she was proud of the team’s outstanding performance. Having a trained Emergency Response group is a core component of our risk management program. The team’s performance illustrates ExxonMobil PNG’s commitment to protecting our people, the communities in which we operate, and our facilities.
Team PNG LNG Captain Fredrick Haru in accepting the award thanked the support of Falck, PNG LNG, and the entire field emergency response team.
“Our win is a reflection of our strong safety culture. Our success was truly a team effort and I want to thank and congratulate each of our six men team.” Fredrick said.
He said they were able to succeed in the challenge despite only 11 days of training as a team because it is their core focus each and every day.
