Papua New Guinea Landowners in Gulf Province have welcomed the recent announcement by Prime Minister James Marape for a review into the country’s Oil and Gas Act.
The Purari Development Association thanked the Prime Minister and says they look forward to seeing changes that will be more beneficial to landowners.
The association represents the 8 clans in the Baimuru LLG which houses the Papua LNG site.
Association General Secretary, Roy Daniel Evara says the plight of people in project impacted areas is often unheard and the approach by the new PM is a positive step forward.
The group says it hopes to secure a meeting with Prime Minister in which a submission will be made with suggestions on areas of the Act that they hope can be changed.
