Madang to host mining challenge

THE National Mining Emergency Response Challenge will be hosted in Madang in August by the Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd.
The competition is an annual event in which PNG mining and petroleum companies compete with each other in artificially create emergency scenarios.
These include firefighting, search and rescue, endurance, vertical rescue, hazmat and multi causality among others.
The four-day competition will be held at the Divine Word University and PNG Maritime College from Aug 22 to 25.
Last week, representatives from Oil Search, Morobe Mining Joint Venture, Newcrest Lihir gold mine, Tolukuma mine, Fire Rescue South Australia and Mineral Resources Authority met in Madang and were impressed with the venue and facilities.
The event will be sponsored by Dunlop Tyres (PNG), Newcastle Rescue (Australia), Icom Radios (PNG), Red Earth (Australia), Falck (Australia), Protector Allsafe (Australia) and Fire Rescue South Australia.
