About Lihir Operation
Our Lihir Operation, one of the world’s largest gold mines, is located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800 km north of Port Moresby. The mine operates an open-pit operation producing refractory ore. Lihir offers modern facilities, including a gym, sports clubs, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, a 9-hole golf course, fishing and boating clubs, and onsite café services.

The Role – Welder
We are seeking a skilled Welder to support fabrication and welding work, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

• Fabricate mechanical and structural components with precision

• Adhere to safety protocols during all fabrication activities

• Collaborate with the maintenance team on equipment repairs

• Contribute to Newmont’s safety, environmental, and operational initiatives

• Ensure fabricated components are fit for purpose and safe for use

• Operate and maintain hand and power tools efficiently

• Identify cost reduction opportunities and report wastage

Qualifications & Experience:

• NATTB Trade Test Certificate in Welding (Level 1, 2, or 3)

• Mechanical/fabrication/welding trade qualification essential

• Proven experience in fabrication processes, troubleshooting, and safety compliance

• Knowledge of fabrication best practices, process optimization, and risk mitigation

• Strong understanding of HSE requirements and risk management
