NPL Graduates Inspire Students to Join PNG’s Mineral Resources Sector

Students visiting the PNG Resources Golden Exhibition have been urged to pursue careers in the mineral resources industry to support national development, according to representatives from New Porgera Limited (NPL).

During interactions at the NPL booth, Graduate Development Program (GDP) participants Darrel Yockopua and Angela Yandapake encouraged visiting students, many of whom were in Grade 12, to set meaningful goals and work consistently toward achieving them.

Yockopua and Yandapake shared insights into the wide range of career opportunities available within NPL’s operations at the Porgera mine, highlighting the industry’s need for diverse skillsets beyond just engineering.

“Our operations at Porgera mine are more than engineering,” the pair explained. “Opportunities exist across mining, processing, maintenance, and support functions. It is an ecosystem that requires diverse skills.”

They emphasized that every individual has a role to play in ensuring the continued success of Porgera, encouraging students to see themselves as future contributors to the sector.

As students prepare for tertiary education and future careers, the NPL graduates urged them to consider roles in the mineral resources industry, which they said is essential for the nation’s continued progress.
