Simberi Mining Lease Renewal Gains Community Support in Papua New Guinea
The Mineral Resources Authority in Papua New Guinea recently held a chief warden hearing regarding the early renewal of Simberi Mining Lease (ML 136), which received strong backing from the local community, according to a statement from St Barbara.
Around 150 people attended the hearing, where community representatives expressed support for the lease renewal and welcomed the proposed enhanced royalty benefits tied to the upcoming sulphide expansion phase.
Randy McMahon, Executive General Manager of Simberi Gold Company Limited, acknowledged the participation of 10 clan representatives, presenting a Mis as a token of appreciation.
The chief warden will now compile a report for the Mining Advisory Council, which will review St Barbara’s application and make a recommendation to the Mining Minister.
