Bougainville Copper Limited is pleased to confirm the appointment of Maryanne Hasola to the company’s board as an independent non-executive director.
Ms Hasola who hails from Bana District in Bougainville is a well-regarded women’s leader who brings to the role more than 23 years’ experience in accounting and auditing, working for the Internal Revenue Commission of Papua New Guinea.
During this period, she has served in various senior positions, including as a company assessor, tax audit manager and director of policy and advice.
Ms Hasola has family links with the landowners from the lower tailings area of the Panguna mine and has a keen interest in Bougainville’s economic development and mining policy.
Drawing on her professional experience, Ms Hasola has assisted and advised the Lower Tailings Association which represents the interests of landowners as well as the Association’s business arm, Lower Tailings Company Ltd.
BCL Chairman Sir Mel Togolo said Ms Hasola not only brings extensive local knowledge to the board but also strong professional experience and analytical abilities in financial matters, including accounting and auditing.
“The company is delighted to welcome Maryanne to the board and given her professional expertise combined with genuine knowledge of issues relevant to mining communities in Bougainville, as well as her network of local connections, we are certain she will make an important contribution,” he said.
Ms Hasola holds a Master of Commerce and Taxation from Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia and a Bachelor of Business Studies specialising in accounting from PNG’s Divine Word University and is a member of the Certified Practising Accountants of Papua New Guinea (CPA PNG).
