PNG's Porgera Mine to re-open in January, 2023

Papua New Guinea Mineral Resource Authority (MRA) Managing Director Mr. Jerry Gary  has told FM100/Hot97 FM News  that  all the issues and negotiations have been concluded with only the formalization of the regulatory part to be submitted for the reopening of  the Porgera Mine. .

Mr. Gary says MRA is waiting on the new Pogera Limited to submit the documentation for MRA to register and give the operators the go ahead to mine.

Meanwhile, Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas has welcomed the news on the re-opening of the Pogera Gold Mine.

Sir Peter says with the new agreements in place there will be a new joint venture company that can apply for a new Special Mining Lease (SML).

He says, under the new joint venture company Kumul Minerals, Mineral Resources Enga (MRE) and Barrick will be the major shareholders of this new joint venture taking into consideration that Barrick has exploration license and water permit. 

He adds that the  mine will re-open in January, 2023 and first production of Gold from the mine is expected to come out in early June in 2023.
