TotalEnergies training PNG local human resource

TOTALENERGIES EP PNG Ltd, operator of the Papua LNG project in Gulf, is incorporating local content in its operations, says managing director Jean-Marc Noiray.

He said the company was currently involved in the training of human resource.

“Our investment will be in the order of US$10 billion (about K34.43 billion),” he told The National. “It will have both direct and indirect impact and will encourage many local businesses to invest.

“They will be in a good position to tender to the call for tender that we are going to put in place to prepare for the building and construction (stages). Local content is a key concern.

“We are preparing the ground for that.

“So, to prepare the ground for that, we have done the nationwide survey, which we called the graduate survey, to understand better the pool of competencies that we are keen to not hire directly ourselves, but to tell our contractors that we have a list of people who have been trained and are competent.

“As well, we are helping Gulf people, especially grades 10 to 12.

“We select them and have them go through a selection process.

“Then we help them with a scholarship to the Port Moresby Technical College.

“However, we hope to expand on that.

“Our aim is to grow a pool of people that can bring the competencies with them to look for jobs.”
