Job Summary

​We are currently seeking to recruit a Senior HR Officer to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations in Simberi Island in New Ireland Province.

The Role

Reporting to the Human Resources Superintendent, the primary purpose of this role is to the ideal candidate will support the Human Resources Superintendent to deliver on Human Resources and Processes and to provide efficient and timely Human Resources support and advise to St Barbara Operations.

This is an exciting time to join Simberi & St Barbara as we embark on our “Building Brilliance” journey to transform the business and deliver sustainable value. 

This is a FIFO position, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a week will be required due to Covid quarantine, and therefore it will be a 21/14 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands.

The key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a fair and consistent application of Human Resources policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Coordination of all People Systems and Processes and provide advice to stakeholders as appropriate on (Recruitment, On-boarding, Work Performance, Career Development, Exit the Company, Training and Development, Discipline, Leave and Workers Compensation).
  • Ensuring the end-to-end recruitment process including the recruitment software package is undertaken in a timely manner.
  • Undertaking engagement of contractors for Simberi Operations including accurate maintenance of the contractor database.
  • Supporting the establishment of the desired culture across the Company through teamwork and participation.
  • Taking initiative and application of problem-solving techniques and conduct investigations where required.
  • Coordination of Workplace Consultative Committee Meeting on a monthly per schedule.
  • Provide support to Human Resources Superintendent in supervision, developing, planning, coordination and monitoring all HR functions.
  • Ensure effective management of Employee data and information is updated in a timely manner. Ensure weekly and monthly reports are completed in a timely manner and communicated.
  • Managing the best use of own time to achieve the required outcomes
  • Champion Pre-start meetings while on roster and conduct HR Inductions for New Hires and Refreshers for permanent staff.
  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate actions to develop in current role and for future roles.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:


  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara Values
  • Five (5) years relevant work experience in Human Resources/Training and Development
  • A tertiary qualification or TAFE qualification in Human Resources related discipline
  • Instructional design experience
  • On-line and manual Recruitment experience
  • Have a high level of attention to detail
  • Highly effective interpersonal and written communication skills
  • High energy with a positive attitude
  • Build and maintain relationships across all levels of the business
  • Previous relevant work experience in mining or heavy industry, on site


  • ·      Exposure to Industrial Relations/Employment Relations skills and work experience
