Reporting to the Senior Mine Surveyor, learn the job of a surveyor whilst under the graduate training program by applying mine surveying knowledge acquired thru meaningful contribution to the overall mining industry at the same time adding value to the business.

This is a FIFO position, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an additional week will be required due to Covid quarantine, and therefore it will be a 28/14 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands.
The key roles and responsibilities include:
- Effectively participating in improving workplace safety by identifying and addressing hazards
- Supporting and abiding by the desired culture across the Company
- Contributing to maintain a consistently high standards of occupational health, safety awareness and environment compliance regulations when performing all mine survey tasks.
- Participating in Risk Assessing Critical Hazards on survey tasks are carried out
- Be able to learn and adapt to the extensive use of mining CAD applications and other GIS CAD system
- Be able to perform EDM Total Station, RTK GPS surveys and UAV photogrammetry to accurate tolerance for all control network surveys, asbuilt pickups and set outs
- Be able to apply the correct use of RTK GPS system, monitor survey base station and perform site calibration if required including its applications in UAV drone operations.
- Assist mine surveyors in liaising with Mine Engineering, Geology and Mine Operations personal in providing survey assistance where and as required participating in meetings.
- Assist mine surveyors in performing field surveys required in marking out mine engineering controls, geology design controls and project engineering controls.
- Assist mine surveyors in completing surveys at month-end to enable volumes to be reported accurately and timely
- Learn and acquire basic skills and knowledge in other sections within the mining operation
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- A current Police Clearance Certificate
- Current unencumbered Driver’s License
- A tertiary degree qualification in Surveying and (Cartography)
- Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience
- Exposure to state of the art surveying equipment, GIS CAD system and mining CAD application is desirable
- Good written, oral and organisational skills that works with attention to detail
- Meets multiple task deadlines and always looking for continuous improvements with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures
- A team player willing to accomplish all tasks in a demanding work environment to make the team successful
