DUBAI EXPO: PNG HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME THE LEADING GOLD PRODUCING COUNTRY IN THE WORLD
Papua New Guinea has been promoted to the world as having the potential to be one of the leading gold producing countries in the globe.
This was done at the world’s largest hybrid gold convention in Dubai by the PNG Expo2020 Team on Sunday.
The convention was attended by diplomats, ministers, top industry leaders from gold mines, refineries, jewellers, traders, import-export companies from the UAE and the world.
PNG's Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union and the Commissioner-General to Expo2020, Joshua Kalinoe, informed the convention that PNG is projected to maintain strong gold production at 1.5 million to 2 million ounces of gold annually over the next five years.
He said there are opportunities to invest in exploration and downstream processing in the PNG mining sector, either in partnership with the existing license holders or in new licenses.
Ambassador Kalinoe said PNG is a greenfield destination where the full potential of gold, copper and other minerals, including in the small scale alluvial gold mining has not been fully realized. PNG’s participation in the Global Gold Convention attracted a number of investment interests in the mining sector.
The highlight of the event was the awarding of the Global Gold Excellence Award to Papua New Guinea through Ambassador Kalinoe.
