The Papua New Guinea gave its approval for the Porgera gold mine in Enga Province to reopen.
Immediately after Cabinet met late this afternoon, formalities were signed at Government House.
The Porgera Commencement Agreement was signed off by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae, witnessed by the State and operator of Porgera Mine, Barrick Niugini Limited.
The agreement gives approval to Barrick Niugini Limited to start the commencement of preparing the mine to operate.
Prime Minister, James Marape, Enga Governor, Sir Peter Ipatas, and other Cabinet Ministers were also present to witness the formalities.
