Newcrest Mining Limited, a global mining company and Australia’s largest gold producer, has recently expanded its footprint into British Columbia as the operator of a Joint Venture company, Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited. Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited has an opportunity for a Senior Mine Engineer within our Technical Services Department. The successful applicant will be required to work from our Vancouver office or from home on a 12 month maternity leave contact. Qualified applicants from local communities are encouraged to apply.
The Senior Mine Engineer will plan the life of mine sequence of mining with the goal of optimizing profit and efficiencies over the course of the mine life. To ensure short range plans conform to long range goals.
Role Accountabilities:
• Schedule life of mine sequence for mining activities
• Identify projects required to maintain mine plan including mine optimisation (Whittle) and waste dump optimisation
• Ensure fulfilment of permit conditions in coordination with other stakeholders
• Design of open pits and waste dumps with phases where applicable
• Ensure short range planning adheres to overall long range vision
• Report writing for internal and external stakeholders
• Interaction with regulatory bodies
• Management and delivery of the Red Chris Lift of Province Plan
• Interaction with future Red Chris Underground mine planning
• Design and scheduling of all surface quarries
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining or related field
• Member or eligible for EGBC (Engineers and Geologists of British Columbia)
• Minimum 10+ years total experience in the mining industry
• Experience working with and manipulating block models
• Working knowledge of mining software and scheduling software, preferably MineSight 3D
• An understanding of pit & dump design creation with geotechnical parameters
• Proficient in Microsoft suite
• Understands basic field operations and equipment limitations considered an asset
• Experience with supervising a technical team
• Experience dealing with regulators and other 3rd party organizations
• Strong operational safety focus and strong focus on safety in design
• Strong communicator to all levels of the organisation
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and work well with multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
• Enthusiastic self-starter and able to handle multiple tasks
• Detail oriented with good organizational skills
• Highly analytical
• Adaptable to all work condition (office/outdoor)
