This was the discovery of Kora North deposit in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands in Papua New Guinea .

This award honours the memory of one of Canada’s greatest prospectors, recognising an individual or team of explorers credited with a significant mineral discovery anywhere in the world.

The award was presented by K92 Mining to Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) during a ceremony on Tuesday in Port Moresby.

Mining Minister Johnson Tuke’s first secretary, Motsy David, who spoke on behalf of the minister, said the Kainantu gold mine, in its short history had grown from a small operation to being a tier one operator in the country.

“Such achievements truly mark the epitome of dedication, commitment, smart approach to geology, exploration and development,” David said.

He thanked K92 Mining Inc on behalf of the Government, the Mining Ministry, Mineral Resources Authority and Department of Mineral Policy and Geohazards Management for donating the award to PNG which will be housed at the MRA Mining Haus.

K92 Mining chief executive John Lewins said the award indicated so much potential in terms of mineral deposits in the country.

“We only scraped the surface,” he said.

“We need to find more mines, more companies to come in, which will result in more investments for the country.”
