Kumul Petroleum Academy Scholarships sets November 30 Deadline for Intakes

The deadline for Kumul Petroleum Academy intakes is Nov 30, an official says.
“During construction of the PNG LNG plant, a lot of international labour was mobilised,” Kumul Petroleum managing director Wapu Sonk said in a statement.
“We want Papua New Guineans in those positions whenever possible and that’s why we established the Kumul Petroleum Academy.”

The academy was established three years ago with the aim to educate a new generation of Papua New Guineans for technical jobs in the oil and gas industry.
Last year, all 40 graduates were offered jobs in the industry upon completion of the training programme and Sonk was confident that this trend would continue.
“We have a start-of-the-art training facility.
“Nowhere else in the Pacific Islands region will you find a live gas processing training plant – not even Australia has one,” he said.
“At the end of the 12-month training programme, our graduates are fully qualified for technical jobs in the oil and gas industry.”
A surprisingly high number of females graduated from the academy with almost 40 per cent of last year’s graduates being female, this despite the oil and gas industry was traditionally a male-dominated industry.
“We want to empower the people of PNG – men and women, young and old,” Sonk said.
“Everybody has a place in our society and our job is to maximise the benefit of our natural resources to the people of PNG.”
He said education was the best long term investment a country could make and was one of Kumul Petroleum’s key focus area.
