OK TEDI KICKS OFF 2019 TRAINING ROADSHOW

Ok Tedi Mining Limited commenced its annual training roadshow at three tertiary institutions in the nation’s capital last week as part of its program to inform students about the Company and the training programs that are available in 2020.
The Main Lecture Theatre at the University of Papua New Guinea was packed to capacity with attendees keen to know about the different training programs offered by OTML.
Similar reception was received at the Port Moresby Technical College and the Don Bosco Technical Institute.
Training Officer, Moses Nickson said, “As part of 2019 preparation to recruiting new intakes for 2020, it was good to visit the major institutions to showcase OTML’s training programs.
The presentation covered overview of OTML operations highlighting the Ok Tedi Way, One Team Wan Pasin, OTML training programs’ background information with facts and figures, entry requirements, recruitment and section process and the criteria and expectation that the company has when screening applicants.
The programs on offer include the Graduate Development Scheme, the Apprenticeship Training Program, the Under-Graduate Scholarship Program and the Preferred Area Development Training.
The Apprenticeship program commenced in 1982 and has since trained over 1,000 competent tradesmen and women.
The GDS program commenced in 1988 seeing over 400 young professionals trained and graduated from Ok Tedi while the Preferred Area Development training program which started in 1997 and graduated over 1200 skilled young men and women.
Many of these graduates have continued with OTML while others have moved to obtained employment elsewhere in the country and overseas.
The team will visit other institutions in the coming weeks.
