PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill says Ben Micah was moved in the recent Cabinet reshuffle to be the Minister for Petroleum and Energy so that he can focus on two of the country’s major projects.
O’Neill said the Papua LNG and the expansion of the PNG LNG projects would have major impacts on the economy.
On the Papua LNG project, he said it was important to expand to a train stage as quickly as possible.
“We want the minister (Micah) and his team to continuously engage with Total SA (French operator) and the partners,” O’Neill said.
“It is important that we conclude the agreements that is necessary for us to kick start this project.
“The second project we are focusing on is the expansion of the current LNG project – the P’nyang (Western).
“We are working closely with Exxon and partners in ensuring that we conclude negotiations which are before the Government.”
