The Mineral Resources Authority is poised to take the alluvial mining sector in the country forward.
Rodger Gunson, the executive manager of the regulatory operation division of MRA said as the industry regulator in PNG, MRA is partnering stakeholders and investors in the three-day inaugural PNG alluvial mining convention and tradeshow in Lae that will close tomorrow.
Gunson said the step forward for small scale mining in PNG is hoped to be gauged from ideas, information and thoughts provided by participants and presenters over the two days.
"But also from learning the lessons of the past and perhaps making this convention a regular calendar event," he said.
Gunson said MRA recognises the time has come to act in taking the lead to introduce change.
"This means creating an environment for the alluvial mining sector which will enable increased productivity and profitability. In turn this will help to achieve sustainable, safe and environmentally prudent alluvial mining development in rural areas."
