Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
Position Objective
We seek to employee an experienced and motivated Senior Underground Geologist who will be responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the Underground Geological activities, including grade control diamond drilling, mapping, reconciliation and grade control modelling. The Underground Senior Geologist will report directly to the Geology Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Monitoring and managing the Underground Geology systems and business processes, identify and prioritise improvement opportunities and formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods.
• Improving on existing procedures for data quality control, U/G grade control, stockpile management, data/interpretation delivery, deliver quality ounces (maximise grade) and increase efficiencies/reduce costs.
• Assisting the Geology Manager with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
• Completing underground resource reconciliation and partner with resource geologists to complete end of year resource estimates.
• Supervision, management, training and coaching of Geologists, Graduates and technicians
To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Geology and a professional membership
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground gold operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and use of 3D modelling software packages. Datamine experience will be highly regarded.
• Proven experience in interpretation and estimation of geological and assay data
• Well organised and highly motivated.
• Proven experience in a senior leadership role
• Strong desire to lead a team that is committed to safety, development of its national work force, setting and meeting production targets.
• Certificate IV Training and Assessment will be highly regarded.
• Previous experience working in PNG or other developing countries will be highly regarded.
• Current Drivers Licence.
Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
The Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The offer for this role is conditional upon the candidate successfully obtaining and retaining a visa that allows you to work in Papua New Guinea.
