Newcrest conducts Safety Training in Lihir

Newcrest’s Lihir operation started the NMSW on Monday with sporting activities.
This year’s theme being ‘think mental health & say no to substance abuse’, the mine’s aim is to promote individual health conditions and positive mental health with healthy lifestyles within the workforce and its families.
Employees and business partners participated in different sports like basketball, volleyball, touch rugby, darts and snooker.
They were reminded of how valuable their mental health and that of their families were, and how to improve and maintain it.
Acting health and safety manager Matthew Young encouraged all to have fun and maintain a positive mental health and lifestyles.
“Mental health maintenance is about how to manage stress, relationships, sleep, and use of alcohol and others that have positive or negative impacts on lives,” Mr Young said.
Apart from the games being played, other planned events involving the community as well includes safe worker competition, safety song competition, Lihir schools mine tour, schools poster competition, slogan & rhyme competition, and awareness programs.
Health consultants the HBP group were conducting awareness on simple mental health checks and counseling support.
